Amazon.com Product Description Siemens raises the bar with the 8825 Gigaset, a 2.4 GHz two-line expandable cordless communication system. Expandable to eight handsets, the 8825 offers a wide range of features, including a digital answering machine with four mailboxes. The voice-announced Caller ID (with subscription to service through your local carrier) uses your voice to announce incoming calls. Caller ID information and a directory of your 120 speed-dial presets are displayed on an easy-to-read backlit LCD. Siemens includes an extra handset (model 8000 Gigaset) with charger. The lightweight handset provides call transfer, conferencing, intercom, and room monitoring. It weighs just 7 ounces and has controls for volume, call waiting, flash, and last-number redial. Two AA rechargeable NiMH batteries (included) provide eight hours of talk time and eight hours of standby. The base and cordless handsets provide digital speakerphones and headset jacks for hands-free conversation. Additional handsets require no extra phone jacks. A built-in answering machine completes the system. It has four mailboxes, date and time stamp, individual announcements for each incoming line, and 45 minutes of recording time. The unit also supports full remote operation, so you can collect messages while you're away. spare yourself May 4, 2009 lifeid 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a phone and cordless system it's pretty good. But like the others have noted, the LCD display is unreadable on the base unit after awhile. So it's a very expensive grey paperweight with a very short cord, unless you don't need a display. If you do, it's around another $100 to repair the display + all the hassles that go with it. It is also very complicated to use as a phone system. There is no customer service. So, spare yourself.
Expensive But Horrible Quality - Beware! December 1, 2007 G-Money (New York, NY United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thought since this was a German product it would be smart and high quality but if Siemen's made cars they would Chrysler K-cars or Yugos at best - NOT BMW's. Aside from the completely unintuitive interface my base station display began to systematically disappear, until now, where I find myself two years down the road shopping for a new phone system because the display only has about 5 working pixels which means I can't change the message since I can't navigate the stupid menus. Yesterday it quit ringing which is sort of the icing on a very stale cake.
If you buy this phone you will be sadly disappointed in time - there's no way this company is German...
Marvelous Product ! October 21, 2007 diowrite (Canton, MA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing has everything: Quality, features, design, performance. Why people have any complaints about this amazing product is beyond me.
As with all products, read the manual. Then, enjoy and explore all you can do with this system.
A Pretty good phone August 13, 2007 Fuzychiapet (Cleveland, OH) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this phone system for about 4 years now, and I haven't had the majority of the problems others have. The screen on the base phone has a line across it, but i am still able to see who is calling. Also the rechargers cannot recharge the phone unless I put a penny between the back of the phone and the charger.
I have gotten the cordless phones wet, dropped it in water, dropped repeatedly on the ground and never had to replace them. And I bought them refurbished!
It lacks an external antenna and the rounded shape of the ear piece make it extremely comfortable, even after hours of talk time.
The batteries last a long time, and after 4 years I still have the original ones. Since the phone requires AA, they can be changed with any you have around the house in an emergency (but take them out before you put the phone back on the charger unless they are NIMH)
Class action lawsuit April 18, 2007 Marosszeki (NJ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Maybe what Siemens needs is a class action lawsuit. I also owned an 8825, same bad experience as shared by other owners.
