Great product with bad WiFi - fixed July 29, 2010 Karasek (NJ, USA) I agree with Busterdog review that the wifi on the 3610 Revo is horrible, and i believe both the wifi card and internal antennas are to blame. To fix the problem I decided to follow an idea I found on[...]
The internal wifi antennas are just two pieces of sheet metal held to the casing with yellow tape. I removed both existing internal antennas and their connectors, and replaced them with two u.fl to sma adapters. I decided to put the sma sockets in the existing antenna cavities so I drilled two holes in the casing aligning them with the small cable notches in the internal metal shielding. This way the placement of the two sma sockets on my 3610 Revo is as follows: one next to the nVidia Ion label and the other on the "bottom" corner, next to the cable lock slot.
After connecting two external aerials I 'borrowed' from an old router, my Revo was no longer dropping signal! Furthermore it now 'sees' fifteen wireless networks in the earea, where before it could barely pick up two or three. Just for the looks I ordered a pair of small D-link 2dbi antennas, in white - they should match up nicely with white casing of the Revo. The next thing I plan to do is to replace the wifi card with a 5 GHz N type.
Great for what it is July 19, 2010 Curt Harrington If you want a full on computer this is not for you unless you don't do much. But if it just sits next to your tv bringing in hours of entertainment go for it.
Revo HTPC July 12, 2010 John Rice Nice product... don't ask too much of it... good for browser and media as second (or third) PC...
Get more memory July 12, 2010 River Rat (New Orleans, La.) I like the unit, but I have gotten "OUT OR MEMORY" errors several times since I bought it without loading anything very significant. It came with 2GB, and I have to remove both to expand the memory capacity to 4GB. It should have just come with one 2GB module instead of two 1GB modules.
Worth the Investment July 9, 2010 Theodore B. Royster (Virginia) Easy initial setup and configuration, There was a bit of glitch when I changed from a dynamic network IP address to a static IP address. I use this this PC as a network appliance, therefore I do not want the possibility of the IP address changing. I have done this before with other PCs without a problem. It took several attempts to get it right with the Acer before the change worked and I successful internet connectivity through Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Now all is well and things run smoothly. The system's performance is what I needed and expected. It is not blazingly fast, but that was not one of my requirements. The form factor is very compact and super quiet. It is tucked away in a corner, wireless connected, and has been running flawlessly for several weeks.
